Cuban Migrant Artists Resilience Fellowship
Mientras que la expresión creativa de tantos artistas cubanos se ve amenazada por la carga del exilio y la migración, Artists at Risk Connection (ARC), junto con PEN Internacional, nos complace anunciar el lanzamiento de nuestro Programa de becas de resiliencia para artistas cubanos migrantes. El objetivo de esta iniciativa es prestar un apoyo esencial a diez artistas cubanos migrantes, empoderándoles para superar los retos a los que se enfrentan y dar vida a sus visiones creativas.
El objetivo principal del programa de becas es empoderar a estos artistas a través de una beca de resiliencia para apoyarles en la ejecución de proyectos artisticos que sirvan de poderosos medios para abordar temas tales como la libertad artistica, los derechos culturales, los derechos humanos y otras problemáticas relevantes.
Más allá del apoyo financiero, el programa de becas ofrecerá diversos recursos para ayudar a los artistas cubanos migrantes a navegar el nuevo ámbito profesional en el que residen en el extranjero. Al aceptar los retos relacionados con un nuevo ámbito cultural, los artistas recibirán la orientación y el asesoramiento necesarios para impulsar su desarrollo como artista. Además, apoyaremos a los artistas a establecer redes con la comunidad artistica global, al mismo tiempo que fomentan colaboraciones y conexiones que trascienden fronteras geográficas.

Cada becario del Programa de becas de resiliencia para artistas cubanos migrantes recibirá:
- Una beca de resiliencia por 7.000 USD que les permitirá continuar con su quehacer artistico con independencia financiera.
- Un programa a medida que guiará y capacitará al artista, diseñado para atender sus aspiraciones artisticas únicas y su crecimiento profesional.
- Acceso a capacitaciones virtuales orientadas a las necesidades particulares de cada artista. Las capacitaciones también fomentarán el desarrollo de habilidades y la excelencia artistica.
- La oportunidad de exhibir su proyecto final, proporcionándoles una plataforma para difundir su trabajo artistico con un público más amplio.
Para poder solicitar la beca, los candidatos deben satisfacer los siguientes criterios:
- Tener 18 años de edad o más y haber nacido en Cuba.
- Haberse reubicado en el extranjero en los últimos cinco años para poder ejercer su expresión creativa, lo que hace hincapié en el impacto significativo de la migración en su trayectoria artistica.
- Demostrar su compromiso con una trayectoria en el mundo de las artes, evidenciando su inquebrantable dedicación a su oficio.
- El programa de becas invita a candidaturas de artistas de todas las disciplinas.
- Esta convocatoria se priorizará a los solicitantes que hayan estado en situación de riesgo debido a su quehacer artistico y que demuestran su auténtico interés y necesidad de participar en el programa de becas. Durante el proceso de selección se valorará que los solicitantes compartan un plan detallado y definido para su propuesta artistica.
- Los solicitantes también deben tener una manera de recibir fondos de ARC. Las formas aceptables de pago incluyen: cuenta bancaria, PayPal, Zelle.

La beca tendrá una duración de seis meses. La fecha limite para la presentación de solicitudes es el 12 de septiembre de 2023. Los beneficiarios de las becas se anunciarán a principios de octubre.

As the creative expression of so many Cuban artists has been jeopardized by the burden of exile and migration, Artists at Risk Connection (ARC), and PEN International, are proud to launch the Cuban Migrant Artists Resilience Fellowship. This initiative aims to provide essential support to ten Cuban migrant artists, empowering them to overcome challenges and bring their creative visions to life.
The core objective of the fellowship is to extend a resilience grant to these artists, enabling them to embark on art projects that serve as powerful channels for themes like artistic freedom, cultural rights, human rights, and other pertinent issues.
Beyond financial support, the fellowship is designed to offer an array of specialized tools and resources to aid Cuban migrant artists in navigating their new professional lives abroad. Embracing the challenges of a new cultural environment, they will receive the guidance and mentorship to foster their artistic growth and development. Moreover, we will help artists to establish robust networks with the global artistic community, fostering collaborations and connections that transcend geographical boundaries.
Each artist selected for the Cuban Migrant Artists Resilience Fellowship will receive the following comprehensive support:
- A resilience grant amounting to 7,000 USD, empowering them to pursue their artistic endeavors with financial freedom.
- A personalized mentorship program, tailored to cater to their specific artistic aspirations and professional growth.
- Virtual training sessions, carefully designed to address the unique needs and challenges faced by each artist, fostering skill development and artistic excellence.
- The exciting opportunity to present their art project, providing a platform to share their artistic expression with a broader audience.
To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be 18 years of age or older and have been born in Cuba.
- Have relocated abroad within the last five years due to their creative expression, highlighting the significant impact of migration on their artistic journey.
- Demonstrate a strong dedication to pursuing a career in the arts, showcasing their unwavering commitment to their craft.
- Artists from all artistic disciplines are invited to apply.
- Priority will be given to applicants who have faced significant risks in their artistic pursuits, and those who eloquently convey their genuine need and eagerness to participate in this esteemed scholarship. A well-defined plan for their artistic project will be valued during the selection process.
- Applicants must possess a valid means to receive funds from ARC, with acceptable forms of payment including bank account, PayPal, or Zelle.
