Cuba
Luis Alejandro Yero (b. 1989) is a Cuban filmmaker, currently based in Fortaleza, Brazil. With an observational style and a tendency to challenge the boundaries between fiction and documentary, his films have portrayed the everyday lives of people experiencing significant social and political change.
He graduated in Documentary Directing from the International Film and TV School (EICTV) in Havana. His short films as a student were screened at over one hundred festivals worldwide. In 2023, he premiered his first feature-length documentary, Calls from Moscow—which he directed, wrote, edited, and produced—in the Forum section of the Berlinale. The film then traveled to an extensive international festival circuit, including MoMA’s Doc Fortnight, Hot Docs, Guadalajara, Gijón, Festival dei Popoli, and others. In addition to his work as a filmmaker, he has worked as a professor and leader of educational initiatives since 2020, when he assumed coordination of EICTV’s Documentary Department, until 2024, when he began directing its Master’s program.
