Julio Llopiz-Casal (b. Havana, 1984) is a visual artist and graphic designer whose practice combines the visual legacy of conceptualism with typographic compositions and writing. Although his work is multidisciplinary, he has a particular affinity for installation and for working with found objects. He is interested in exploring ideas around Memory and Archive.
He has participated in group exhibitions such as “La Parte maldita” at the Embassy of Norway, Havana (2013); “Landlord Colors: On Art, Economy, and Materiality” at Cranbrook Art Museum, Detroit (2019); “Obsession” at ENTRE Galerie, Vienna (2021); and “ALIBI,” a project presented as part of On the New: Viennese Scenes and Beyond at the Belvedere 21 Museum of Contemporary Art, Vienna (2023). His solo projects include “El loco listo y el cuerdo a la espera” at CRISTO SALVADOR GALERÍA, Havana (2012), and “Normalmente,” in collaboration with Cuban painter Richard Somonte, in Madrid (2023).
