Ivy Gikonyo

Ivy Gikonyo is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a post-doctoral researcher focusing on issues of freedom of expression, digital rights, and governance in Africa. She is currently the manager of the Expression, Information and Digital Rights Unit at the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria. Her interests include research and policy interventions. She has been engaged in the development of regional guidelines through the African human rights framework and collaborating with different stakeholders in the formulation of frameworks concerning access to information and data governance. Her research on the collateralisation of strategic state assets looks closely at power, and who gets a say in decisions that affect public life. She brings that same instinct to her work on artistic freedom, paying attention to how control manifests.
