“Heroes are as necessary as the sun.”
— Anton Chekhov
This year, ARC is co-presenting the
Chekhov Variety Show, NYC’s longest-running annual celebration of Anton Chekhov’s birthday. This year’s event celebrates artist-heroes like Chekhov (one of history’s most effective prison reform advocates) and features a performance by human rights defender and musician
Mai Khoi.
Valorie Curry (
The Tick) and
Sam Underwood (
Fear the Walking Dead) lead a troupe of Chekhov-loving performers in a night of comic readings of Chekhov’s early funny stuff and “Why We’re Miserable According to Chekhov” by Chekhov superfan and host Laura Strausfeld. Musical guests include
Chapman/Sirna-Frest’s “Chekhovian Song Cycle,” New York City’s favorite Chekhov rock band, Mai Khoi and more!
The event is sponsored by Columbia University’s
Harriman Institute and co-presented with
Yaddo and the
International Free Expression Project.
