ARC – Artists at Risk Connection will join the inaugural roundtable of “Le mois de l’hospitalité et des libertés académiques” by UXIL in Paris, a program of conferences, exhibitions, screenings, and debates held from the 18 to the 24 of June.
Bringing together scholars, artists, and representatives of international support programs, this roundtable – “From Impeded Research to Spaces of Hospitality” – explores contemporary forms of intellectual and artistic displacement, the circulation of knowledge across borders, and the institutional responses developed to support threatened research and creative practices. Drawing on perspectives and experiences from the Middle East, Eastern Europe, the United States, and Latin America, participants will discuss the impact of wars, political violence, authoritarianism, censorship, and growing constraints on the conditions of research, teaching, and artistic creation. The discussion will address a broad range of situations, from forced displacement and exile to impeded scholarly work, restricted academic cooperation, and the search for new spaces of hospitality and collaboration.
By crossing analytical perspectives, institutional experiences, and trajectories of knowledge circulation, the roundtable will examine the evolving meanings of “knowledge in exile” and reflect on the role of universities, cultural institutions, and international networks in defending academic and artistic freedom today.
