UPDATE REGARDING COVID-19: Please note that the Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) is not a grantmaking program and is unable to assist artists financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, because we recognize the growing effect that the pandemic is having on artists, we have compiled a growing list of resources for artists affected by COVID-19 and hope that you may find assistance there. Please refer to the "Stories" page to find the list. If you are an artist or cultural practitioner otherwise at risk because of your creative practice, please follow the directions below to contact us.

Please fill out the form to get in touch with us. Submissions are encrypted and ARC understands that your communications are confidential. ARC does not provide direct services, but we will do our best to refer you to organizations that do. You can also find help by exploring our network of resources.

Your message is end-to-end encrypted and will be marked as urgent. You have the option to write this message in Arabic, English, French, Mandarin, Russian or Spanish. Expect a reply within 72 hours.

Emergency Fund for Ukrainian Visual Artists

PEN America's ARC program has launched a special call for applications for emergency assistance to Ukrainian artists in danger, through an emergency fund created with the support of the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation and the Andy Warhol for Visual Arts.

This first emergency grant is open to Ukrainian visual artists, including painters, sculptors, filmmakers, photographers, cartoonists, performers, graphic designers, and others.

This fund provides short-term assistance to the artists and their families in emergency situations. Grants can be used to cover basic expenses including but not limited to: food, utilities, rent, security, medical and mental health expenses, legal representation, or travels.

How to apply

To apply, please complete the online application, available in English and Ukrainian. If you have any trouble accessing and/or filling out this form, please contact us at UkraineEG@pen.org.

Security and Confidentiality

In order to protect against interception of communications that could compromise your security, we strongly recommend you to use secure messaging services for your communications. End-to-end encrypted solutions, such as Signal for phone and ProtonMail for email, are strongly advised. For more recommendations and tips, please read the Digital Safety section of the Safety Guide for Artists.

Assistance for non-visual artists

While artists from other disciplines or countries are unfortunately not yet eligible for our emergency grant, we encourage all artists to contact ARC regarding other avenues for support. ARC has a network of more than 800 organizations that have many ways to help artists who are threatened or at risk, and we act as a critical connector between artists and other organizations that provide direct services. If you are an artist at risk, please contact ARC via our intake form
